“After years of barely surviving severe domestic abuse, struggling with autoimmune disorders caused by stress and being even more stressed out as a single parent working three jobs, I felt like a failure, filled with shame and guilt. I was exhausted, frustrated and angry. I finally hit my breaking point. One night, while driving home from my third job,completely exhausted and with anxiety burning in my stomach, I had a thought that terrified me: maybe it would be okay if I just… stopped. Everything. My life. The pain, the fear, everything. Just stop it all.
That thought jolted me awake, and I knew something had to change, I had to do something right now. I pulled my car over, and in a moment of desperation, I screamed, “NO MORE! I am done!” As I cried out, I wasn’t sure if I was done living or crying out for help, but then, through my tears, I prayed, “Show me something that will give me a reason to live. I don’t want to die. Give me hope.”
That night changed everything. I had declared my choice to live. And I made a choice to not give up, and to do something different. I didn’t know what, but I was willing. And that’s all it took. Within three days, I met an amazing woman who would become my guide and mentor.
